The notched grating material comes in three thickness/cutout sizes with corresponding flat grate strips. You can build your grate two ways: 1) Using notched strips in both directions, or 2) Using notched strips in one direction for the bottom layer and flat strips in the other direction for the top layer. The second method allows water to drain underneath grates that are installed on flat surfaces.
