This backing sheet is sticky on one side and printed so you can read the directions as you work.
The letters self-align to a grid on the sheet. The backing paper provides a heat shield for the boat while ironing.
These sheets are no longer offered by the manufacturer. We are told a sheet of wax paper can be used as a barrier instead. Alignment of letters without this sheet is very difficult. We have had no luck using wax paper.
For black lettering you can use the MDR stencil kit below.
A "Magic Marker" of contrasting color may also be used.
