~ WELCOME ABOARD: Greetings from Captain Jim
=============================================================

Even though we're supposed to be hit with 60 degree temperatures tomorrow, we did have a white Thanksgiving and are getting ready for winter sports. We decided to

extend our No-Cost Shipping promotion through Monday night and wanted to let you know.

http://www.shipstore.com/ss/HTML/FREE/FREESHIP1.html

Go directly to the link above and add it to your shopping cart. If you decide not to order, you can just abandon your order. No problem. But if you don't add it to

your shopping cart now, you may forget and miss out on the deal.

I hope this will help you tackle some early holiday shopping, and then you'll be ready for the snow when it comes...

As George explains below, we're big fans of the Tube Pro snow tubes. We have two excellent models, hard bottom and soft bottom snow tubes.

Hard Bottom:

Soft Bottom:

http://www.shipstore.com/ss/html/TUBE/TUBE40XB.html

My personal favorite is the hard bottom version. It flies down the slope. We're currently working with Tube Pro to add a seat cushion for the inside of the tubes.

We expect to have them available soon. Keep your eyes peeled, but order your snow tubes now, before the no-cost shipping promotion ends tonight, Monday, November 28

at midnight ET.

It was the first snowfall I've been in the North Country for this year, and although it was less than five inches, it lasted for several days and was just slippery

enough to afford some amazing sledding!

Since Thanksgiving coincided with the birthday of my young nephew, I couldn't resist the opportunity to introduce him (and his older brother) to the coolest

birthday present available. The slickest, fastest, smoothest (think bumps and jumps) and all around best performing snow sled out there. Yes, I'm talking about Tube

Pro commercial quality hard bottom snow tubes:

http://www.shipstore.com/ss/HTML/TUBE/TUBESNOW.html

These "snow rockets" are wild! We sledded all day long at Ballard Park and the Westport Country Club. Even as darkness fell, the kids were insisting on "Just one

more run, pleeeeeeease?" It was an adrenaline addicting day to be sure. Remember this reflection from an old Beacon?

"You dive onto your sled at the top of Ballard Park next to the skating rink and go blasting down, down, down until the ground levels in front of the bandstand. Not

only is this one of the most exhilarating ways to enjoy a snowy afternoon, it offers a singularly impressive view if you can slow down long enough to appreciate it.

As you stand... preparing to launch yourself, building up your nerves for the rocket-like descent through the powdery white, you gaze out across Northwest Bay, the

tree-lined North Shore on the left and the pastel colored shapes of Vermont's Green Mountains on the right. The water, reflecting the sky, once again sun-filled and

cloudless now that the storm has ended, is an almost surreal azure blue. Wisps of mist cling to the glass-flat surface as Lake Champlain yields her warmth one

degree at a time, slowly cooling, slowly approaching the freezing point. And then, as you stand transfixed by the magnificent view, someone leaps onto a sled and

zips off in a cloud of powdery snow. Your heart races and your adrenaline spikes. You dive onto your snow tube and zoom after them in hot pursuit."

I shared that almost sentimental moment in our second Beacon:

http://www.shipstore.com/ss/HTML/NEWS/NEWSbeacon002.html

But this time, sentimentality was the last thing on our minds. We were jazzed all day long, zipping down and hiking up, zipping down and hiking up again. And since

the snow was shallow, we didn't even need to pack a run. We could use the whole hillside! If the snow had been deeper, Captain Jim's run packing advice from the

same Beacon I referred to above would have proved helpful:

"A pointer from the Captain: when you have tons of fresh snow, it takes a few runs to pack down a nice big chute for the snow tubes. Try pulling a little person

(your son, daughter, baby brother or mother-in-law will work fine) down the hill so that the tube packs the run. Then try sledding down. Each successive trip down

the hill improves the conditions. Of course, a snow jump is fun too! We packed several and launched ourselves clear into the ozone a couple of times. Beauty of an

inflatable sled? The landing. Even if you go down head first, you can walk away unbruised!"

As you see, we're HUGE fans of the Tube Pro snow tubes. They're unparalleled in the world of sledding. Even the Tube Pro video doesn't adequately convey the thrill

you experience when you fly downhill in a Tube Pro snow tube, but it'll give you a hint:

http://www.tubeproinc.com/video/tubesinaction.mov

Tube Pro snow tubes are designed to last a lifetime of backyard usage and are visually identical to Tube Pro's famous commercial resort tubes. You may have rented

one of these on your last ski vacation. Ski resorts love these snow tubes because they are so popular and so well built.

Each snow tube is manufactured to the highest standards. A forty inch diameter reinforced rubber tube is covered with rugged, heavy duty 600 Denier polyester

canvas. The plastic bottom is made from high molecular weight polyethylene plastic that displays high impact strength and superior cold crack resistance. This

state-of-the-art bottom slides incredibly well in all snow conditions and can withstand temperatures below -60 C. (Of course, if it's that cold, you should be

snuggled up by the fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa!)

The handles and exterior trim of the cover are made from heavy-duty automotive seat belt webbing. The stitching on the handles is sewn using the famous "W" pattern,

one of the strongest used to sew two pieces of material together. The tow-rope is made from nylon strap webbing with over 4200 pounds of tensile strength and is

sewn to a beefy rubber ring handle.

Too much information? Too technical? The truth is, all you need to know is that this is the most exciting, best built snow tube sold. Bar none.

Oh, actually, there's one other vital detail... Tube Pro snow tubes are capable of withstanding the weight of a very large person, like me for example. At 210

pounds, Tube Pro's only acknowledgment that I weigh in a little heavier than a child, is to increase the velocity of my descent. And, frankly, that's not so bad...

But, of course, sledding is only for children, right?
