It was one of those weekends. Those "It's summer. Let's wear shorts and go swimming and play in the sun..." weekends. Tennis and hiking and a balmy ride across Lake Champlain on the ferry. Bar-b-q suppers on the deck and windows open all night.

And then today arrived. Gray. Cold. Rainy. An all too unsubtle reminder that summer in the North Country is still a little ways off. So I bundled up and called the Ski Nautique dealer nearby to confirm that he's still planning to have our boat de-winterized and launched for us this coming Saturday. Denial. It always works!

My fingers are crossed that this weekend will offer up the same mirror flat water, warm temperatures and bluebird skies that so many boaters were already enjoying on the lake this past weekend. Mostly fisherman as far as far as I could tell from my perch atop Barn Rock, an almost 80 foot stone escarpment which towers above Lake Champlain in "the narrows". Water's still too chilly for most other recreational boaters, but with our wetsuits pulled out of storage and our waterskis tuned and ready to go, my wife and I are more than ready to brave the 41 degree waters. Stay tuned!
