~ WELCOME ABOARD: Captain Jim's "Personal Spring" is Here!

Two things mark the official beginning of my personal Spring! One is to see the overnight jump in orders and website traffic. There is one night every year that causes everything to jump into high gear. The orders jump to about four times the winter level and the snow tubes switch to river tubes. This transition is never gradual. It just happens.

The second, and much more important, is to spot the first boat of the season on the lake. I've been patiently (anxiously) watching for boats on the water in our bay and was finally rewarded with a few this past Saturday. It was a beautiful day to be on the water and I was jealous that my boat is not floating yet.

Freshly back from a family vacation, having the product shift and spotting boats on the water has me charged up for the summer. I know many of you are as excited as I am to put winter behind us. Here's to a happy boating season!

Depending on where you live, you may or may not still have time to order us. But do yourself a favor, whether you shop with us or someone else, remember to show your gratitude to the mother of your children, your own mother, and all the other mothers out there investing so much of their time, energy and love into raising super kids. (Did you read all that, Mom? Can that count as my Mother's Day gift?!?!)

Yesterday Captain Jim and I attended "career day" at the Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School which is located about fifteen minutes away from our offices.

We packed up a couple of oversized flat screens, Jim's nearly two thousand pound Mac "super computer", a couple of our new catalogs and then headed off to Elizabethtown. We were admitted to the school after signing in (a post-9/11 precaution) and headed off to a gymnasium/assembly hall where tables had been set up for local businesses.

We had a good time chatting with middle school and high school students about what we do. Some questions about how a small Adirondack company can have customers all over the world! Several students filled out interview sheets as assignments for teachers, and others gawked at the slick flat screen monitors. Lots of students asked if we were like Amazon or eBay! Some day, hopefully...
