~ WELCOME ABOARD: Father's Day Wish List

It's funny. We talk about Memorial Day weekend marking the official start to summer, but this past weekend really DID seem like summer was at long last ready to get its act together. Spectacular weather (for the most part) and great boating conditions.

Suddenly people emerge out of the proverbial woodwork, faces that you haven't seen in months. And everyone's smiling, excited about another summer on Lake Champlain. Plans are made and parties are announced. Captain Jim's brother, Larry Carroll, set up the breakwater and floating front dock. Westport Marina is looking like a marina once again. Well, almost...

All of the rain we've received in recent weeks has raised the lake level and submerged the marina's service dock! But that didn't stop us from pulling in for gas this weekend to top up after two full days of waterskiing. Of course, there's still plenty of debris floating along the surface (mostly driftwood and uprooted trees), so obstacle course slalom skiing was the order of the day.

We returned to work yesterday to record orders placed over the Memorial Day weekend. Thanks for allowing us to serve as your marine supplies resource. We're grateful for your business and are hustling to ensure timely receipt of all the boating products you need to start up the season.

~ CAPTAIN'S TIP: Spring Launch 2006

It's springtime again, and that means celebration time for all you boat owners out there. Your liquid asset, tucked away for months of winter hibernation can at last be launched, and you can once more recover the boating equilibrium. Are you ready?

Let's quickly cover our bases, touch on some of the things you should be doing as you launch you boat. Of course the top of the list is cleaning, polishing, bottom painting and other surface preparation. Remember, the boating season will put some major wear and tear on you vessel, so now's the time to make sure you've done everything you can to protect her from damaging ultraviolet radiation, water, wind and algae. Check out the incredible deals on Interlux and Pettit paints and Starbrite cleaning products. For polish, check out the Fleetwax from Collinite Marine and if your bright work is asking for a little TLC, we're giving you a great deal on Z-Spar varnish.

And what about lines? It's prudent to replace your dock and anchor lines every few years as they become brittle and/or frayed. Take a little time now to make sure your boat is ready for the action-packed season ahead.
