~ WELCOME ABOARD: July 4th Photo Contest
=============================================================
Two weeks until Independence Day, unless you're in Westport, NY where we'll be celebrating on Saturday, July 1st! It's sort of ironic how long it seems to take for summer to get underway, and then suddenly it's July 4th.
With time flying by, I wanted to give you a jump start on our 4th of July Photo Contest. While making plans for your all American weekend, don't forget to bring along your camera to take some great photographs. Just pull out your camera and start snapping away.
I'm going to reward the best photo with a $100 shopping spree at ShipStore.com. That's right, email your favorite photo(s) to editor@shipstore.com before July 19th to be eligible, and we'll announce the winner in the following issue of the Beacon. See the instructions at the end of this email.

~ CAPTAIN'S TIP: Sizzlin' Summer 2006
=============================================================
Summer's here at last! And this past weekend, the first rain-free weekend in far too many weeks (months?) Lake Champlain was covered with boats and happy boaters. Sailors galore, fishermen competing in a derby, families out cruising, youngsters scudding across the waves in brightly colored towables. The water's still a little chilly (low-mid 60's) but it didn't prevent me from swimming most of Sunday to keep the humid heat at bay.
With summer in full swing, the boating mind shifts to the essentials. Now that you're launched and you've had a taste of what it's all about, it's time to focus on three quick points.
The first is safety, and top of the safety category is lifejackets. Browse our
wide selection of PFDs and update the safety equipment that could save your life this summer. If you need some assistance in deciding which lifejacket is right for you, try
our helpful PFD guide..
And what about an
air horn? Or a lightweight, portable
safety horn and lanyard?
In an emergency, lifejackets and horns are vital, but there are several other accessories that could significantly improve your situation. Consider purchasing a safety lights such as this
Distress SOS Light. And for serious boaters who venture farther from shore, you might want to consider a
Rapid Ditch Bag and an
EPIRBThe second is electronics. Isn't it time for a new boat stereo? Look at all of the
boat stereo deals currently available. Adding tunes to your summer fun is pretty much a guaranteed good time. And maybe it'll help you find your waterskiing rhythm! But don't crank the volume too high or you're liable to spook the fish. But we've even got you covered in that case. Check out this
SmartCast Wireless Fishfinder which you can wear on your wrist. And it even comes with a complementary Lure Pack.
And I saved the best for last. No matter how young or old you are, summer is about
water sports and we're the "one stop shop" for all things wet and wild! You've probably heard all of the hype about the
Wego Kite Tube which won the 2006 SGMA Sports Product of the Year. In fact, it's been a challenge just to keep it in stock, but so far we've managed, and that's meant lots of brave (crazy?) ShipStore customers flying high above the water's surface.
If you're looking for a slightly less extreme alternative to the Wego, we have tons of adrenaline pumping
towables in stock to supercharge your summer. A relaxing but robust option is Tube Pro's ever popular
River Tubes which will ensure season after season of river running excitement. Just make sure that you're armed with a
Stream Machine Water Launcher Squirt Gun if you decide to float down the river with mischievous friends!
Cheers,
