Teak furniture is best maintained with a teak sealer. Some products are blends of oil and varnish. Your preference for the final look will determine whether you want a blend. From our experience, high varnish content blends will blister in nothern climates as moisture works its way out of the wood.
Much of the furniture industry uses Semco teak sealer in a 50/50 blend of their Natural and Gold colors, called Honeytone. We sell several other version of teak oil as well. Coloring is a personal choice. Clear will give the most natural look. The dark gold color is lighter than dark cherry stain on wood, but much darker than natural.
The recommended application method is a trigger style spray bottle. The oil should be sprayed until it builds on the surface and allowed to sit. Wipe off any excess after it has absorbed. Repeat as necessary. See this page for a detailed explanation how to care for your teak.
You can also use a foam brush and liberally apply the oil. Rags for application tend to soak up too much of the product.
Do not use a pressurized spray gun for paint. It will atomize the oil and break it down.
The rough rule of thumb for volume is to allow 1 pint per piece of furniture. It seems to average out across a table and chair set. When in doubt, order a bit more. It won't go bad.
